Top Online Games For 2023

Top Online Games For 2023

When you are looking for new online games to play online, there are a lot of considerations to take into account, and should look into a free gaming server. First, you have the uber-popular mainstays – those games with millions or billions of players, even if they have been around for many years. There are also newer games that may not have developed quite as significant a following but still provide endless hours of interactive fun. In addition, diamonds in the rough are games that may have gone under the radar yet can prove an enjoyable distraction from the rigors of daily life, especially when playing with friends. Then there are those highly anticipated games that have either just been released or are expected to release during the year.

To help you find your new top online game for 2023, we will offer diverse options as entrees for your gaming palette.

The Popular Games

These are some of the current games with the greatest worldwide player population – a good indicator that they offer an enjoyable gaming experience and enough content to keep their players returning for more.

PUBG

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been a consistent draw for players since 2017, primarily because of its accessibility, frequent updates, and enjoyable game mechanics. One of the significant reasons people play the game is its battle royale mode, where players operate solo, duo, or with a squad in a winner-takes-all survival match.

Beginning with 100 players packed together in an airplane, when the plane reaches the battleground, chaos ensues as players struggle to survive in a situation reminiscent of The Hunger Games. What is particularly endearing about this gameplay is that there are multiple ways to win, from actively engaging in combat to employing stealth to collect items and wait out most of the killing. The realistic style helps encourage the adrenaline to flow during fast-paced battles, differing from more cartoonish entries in the genre, such as FortNite.

Minecraft

Another game with accessibility on PC, consoles, and mobile devices, Minecraft is particularly popular among the younger generations. Appealing more to the artistic rather than those who enjoy fast-paced combat, the game is a sandbox allowing players to express their creativity through creation. However, there are plenty more things to do when playing Minecraft than building.

This versatility is a tribute to its popularity, as players can build villages or bases, hunt monsters and animals for crafting, explore various biomes and worlds, seek rare items, open portals to the Nether or End, and seek out and battle bosses such as the Ender Dragon and Wither.

The 8-bit charm of the game makes it simple yet appealing, and you can follow the fun from Minecraft to one of its many spin-offs, including Minecraft: Story Mode, Minecraft Dungeons, and the forthcoming Minecraft Legends.

Releasing This Year

Looking for something new to play with your friends? Check out these hot titles that are currently scheduled for release in 2023:

Throne And Liberty

From NCSoft, the minds behind GuildWars and the Lineage series, Throne and Liberty is a new intellectual property, an MMORPG that serves as a foil for you to create your own stories along with your friends. While there is no set release date, the game is expected to appear in 2023, with at least an open beta during the early part of the year.

The game purports to be visually stimulating, with a classless system where your skills and ability can change depending on the weapons you decide to use. PVP is reportedly optional, where you can enjoy the game without or enter specified zones to compete in a PVP ranking system.

While information is limited until the beta period begins, with such a good track record for games, people have high expectations for the title.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre the Game

If you enjoyed Friday the 13th: the Game, you will likely find the new reincarnation of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to be right in your wheelhouse. In fact, the same developers are behind the game.

An asymmetrical game, the action is based on the original 1974 film, with exciting 3 versus 4 competitive gameplay action. Of course, three players make up the frightening trio of Leatherface, The Cook, and the Hitchhiker, while the other four players are selected from the “victims,” five new faces to the franchise, named Julie, Leland, Connie, Sonny, and Anna, that have their own backstories and unique skills and abilities to help them escape their adversaries.

These horror-tinged games are well-suited for cat-and-mouse games of stealth and hunting, with heightened tension and excitement as killers and victims face off, set in an iconic franchise with beautiful graphics and fantastic attention to detail from the film and its setting.

Diamond in the Rough

Among Us

This clever game is a mixture of minigames and murder, like a more cutesy version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre game, but with a Whodunit aspect. The basic premise is that there are eight crew members on board a ship whose job it is to complete minigames to maintain it. A progress bar, shared among all crewmembers, shows when the current job will be complete.

The twist is that two of these players are imposters whose job is to murder enough of the other crew members to take control of the ship. For the imposters, the fun is finding ways to commit these horrific acts without alerting the other players that they are the enemy. This takes place through careful maneuvering and the use of special skills, such as being able to take shortcuts through vents that the other players lack. You can also lie and misdirect through in-game text chat, which can be a lot of fun.

For the actual crew, the minigames can be stressful because many take up a large portion of the screen, making it difficult to know whether or not someone is lurking behind you, planning your demise. It is an excellent detective game because you can look for signs of deception, such as an imposter not completing tasks or appearing somewhere too quickly because they took a shortcut. Once you suspect the imposters, you still have to find a way to remain safe until the crew fills the progress bar.

The Bottom Line

There are plenty of enjoyable online games, but the above are some of the best, or at least highly anticipated, for 2023. They are built to last, with varying game modes and plenty of things to do to keep their players coming back for more. These games offer longer or shorter experiences, depending on the play style, so you can mix and match to suit your tastes. What better way to spend time with your friends than shooting at one another, going on adventures, or secretly trying to murder one another?
