Contaminated Water

What Are the Symptoms of Contaminated Water?

Contaminated water is a risk for many people, both those who live in a community or those who are stationed near a place that has contaminated water. The effects can range from being mildly annoying to devastating to the quality of life for the people who have them. The ultimate result could be death.

People who were stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina from 1953 to 1987 found that they were drinking water that was contaminated with both Trichloroethylene (TCE) and Tetrachlortethylene (PCE) and they caused a wide variety of issues.

For example, you can look at common Camp Lejeune water contamination symptoms and see if any of them apply to you or anyone you know?

  • Headaches
  • Decreased Appetite
  • Memory Loss
  • Slow Reaction Time
  • Motor Function Issues
  • Gastrointestinal Issues
  • Cancer

While some of these symptoms could be construed as other things at first, the recurrence of them helped link them to people who had been drinking the water at Camp Lejeune. There were people who only had short-term issues since they didn’t stay there for too long, but others stayed for a longer amount of time and suffered more debilitating illnesses.

Over The Long Term

The longer that the people at Camp Lejeune spent on the base, the higher the chance of them having long-term effects on their body rose. They found themselves discovering that they had one or more of the following:

  • Kidney disease
  • Liver problems
  • Kidney or Liver cancer
  • Heart Issues
  • Fetal loss or abnormalities
  • Prostate cancer

The Quality of Life

Thanks to these illnesses, not only affected the lives of the people who were dealing with the debilitating symptoms, it also affected their family members. They would have to take them to the doctor for evaluation and treatment … but their home life could also be shattered. Dealing with people who are suffering from memory loss and other issues can plunge them into a very dark place, no matter how much they love them.

The illnesses and their treatments can also put them in financial peril, since their cost is high. While there are a lot of court cases and attempts to get the veterans of Camp Lejeune financial help, this may not be available to civilians in areas that also find themselves suffering from having drunk contaminated water.

You may think for a long time that you are drinking regular water … and then to find out that it is contaminated can be quite a blow. Learning that it can be a major contributor to an illness is even worse. If this is the case, then you need to find out who or what company is behind it … and get a lawyer to go after them.

While getting money won’t make you completely well again, you can get something to support your family and pay for any medical treatments. That is the very least that you are owed. Hopefully, regulations will prevent these tragedies from happening again in the future.
