How To Keep C Section Incision Dry When Overweight

There are many ways to keep a c-section incision dry, but it’s especially important to take special care of it if you’re overweight or obese. Infections from this type of incision can lead to endometritis, which can cause the uterus to rupture. It can also smell and itch, and it’s best to avoid it if possible. A few simple techniques to keep the incision clean and dry can help.

First, you should keep the incision clean. You should have your OB or midwife help you with this. You should take care not to scratch or irritate the wound as this can contribute to infection. Infected incisions may develop watery discharge, redness, and ache. You should also avoid swimming and heavy activity for at least a week. The incision should be protected with bandages until you’re ready to return to normal activities.

The incision should be kept clean at all times. After your c-section, you can shower but try not to rub the wound as this can cause infection. Itching is common and is normal, but do not scratch it because this can lead to an infection. Other symptoms of an infected c-section incision include pain, swelling, odor, watery discharge, and redness. It may also be accompanied by chills and fever.

If you’re overweight, you should try to bathe less than twice a day. While this will help prevent infection, it’s not necessary. Your body’s natural defenses will protect the incision against moisture. A light shower will also calm your nerves and reduce stress. Don’t soak in the tub. Apply a thin layer of antibacterial soap to the incision area after a few days, but do not rub it in. You can also use warm, soapy water for the next four to five days.

While it’s possible to wash the incision, it is still important to keep it dry. The incision should be covered with gauze or sterile cotton to prevent moisture buildup. It is essential to keep the incision dry at all times after it has been closed. If it is too wet, it will lead to infection. If it’s too dry, a sterile cotton pad will do the trick.

While it’s possible to wash the incision after the surgery, it’s best to avoid it if you’re overweight. Because the skin incision is already infected, it will take longer to heal, and will cause additional pain. If it’s still wet, it could be an infection. If this occurs, it’s important to contact your doctor immediately. It may be necessary to take antibiotics for your newborn.
