PIADC Research Participation Program
PIADC offers many ways to get involved in research projects. Whether you want to get a career in a biotech company or learn about animal disease, there is an opportunity to get involved. The program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and the Department of Homeland Security, and it is administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education and the Oak Ridge Associated Universities. There are also many opportunities to gain hands-on experience in research.
PIADC is a unique facility dedicated to the research of foreign animal diseases. The center’s research is an integral part of the nation’s defense against disease. It is the only laboratory in the nation that can perform initial diagnostic testing for foot-and-mouth disease, and it develops novel diagnostic tools and conducts training for first responders.
Research opportunities at the Plum Island Animal Disease Center include biodefense, and positions with the Foreign Animal Disease Research Unit. These positions are immediately available and can be renewed for up to five years. The application process for both positions is free, and applicants can submit multiple applications. Those with a doctoral degree in a relevant area may be eligible for additional fellowships.
