Little People and the Big Elephant
Little People are small wooden toys that have been produced by Fisher Price since the 1950s. They are made from wood and have a plastic head covering, a body and hands, and no arms. Although the originals were very chunky, they were made more colorful and larger in the later years. Today, the Little People are still popular with children.
One of the most popular features of the Fisher-Price Little People is their “big elephant.” This figure is a favorite with kids. It is made to encourage imaginative play and to strengthen fine motor skills. The elephant is designed to help children learn about animals and kindness. In addition, it can be used for a fun zoo set with a tipping platform, a feeding bin, and benches. Other accessories include a hut, a pink elephant, and a zebra.
In the mid 1990s, a Texas native named Dale Patterson started collecting Little People. He has been buying them for his son Jon, who is 14 months old. Since then, he has built a collection of over a thousand figures. He designs Web sites for churches and other small businesses.
Since then, a series of Little People episodes has been released on television, VHS, DVD, and downloadable video, and six music videos have been created. Each is based around one of the six characters: a boy, a girl, a dog, a baby sister, a tiger, or a monkey. A total of 138 Little People episodes have been produced.
The Little People series was redesigned for children in 1991. New characters and names were added, and the animals’ appearances were updated. The line also introduced electronic sounds in 2000. In 2007, the line released a new learning zoo, called the Little People A-Z, which contains 26 animals. Children can learn about the alphabet and facts about different animals.
Another feature of the Little People is their colorful faces. The Little People have smiling faces. The faces of the males are a conical shape, while the faces of the females are hourglass shaped. They have oval eyes and slanted ovals on the upper part of their bodies.
Toy safety is another important topic for toy manufacturers. Fisher-Price was blasted for its old style Little People toys as a choking hazard for young children. Mattel, the company that owns Fisher-Price, responded to the threat by revising their toy safety guidelines. However, a recent change in the Little People design caused an attorney to call Fisher-Price’s toy safety program “fake.”
There are thousands of little people out there. Some of them are even hard to find. Because of their popularity, they are highly sought after by collectors. Collectors often refer to the Little People as the chunky ones. Despite the fact that many people regard them as a choking hazard, the little people have remained a favorite among many children.
The Little People series has been sold by several companies, including Marvel Productions, Cuppa Coffee Studios, Egmont Imagination, and Cuppa Coffee. The episodes have been recorded in 30 volumes. Animated videos have also been released. These have included a six-part series and a series of six videos, with one of the videos focusing on Timmy and Penny.
