Biomedical Science Research Building
A biomedical science research building will maximize the use of contemporary biomedical tools and establish a sense of community among research leaders. The Mathias Biomedical Research Center is comprised of four above-grade stories and is anchored by a circular stair. The building faces Hilgard Avenue, and is surrounded by the Mathias Botanical Garden to the south and east.
University of Michigan’s Biomedical Sciences Partnership Building
The Biomedical Science Partnership Building is home to some of the nation’s most cutting-edge research facilities. Designed by Polshek Partnership Architects LLP, the building’s open design fosters collaboration among researchers. Labs are separated by glass and offer students and faculty the option to work in teams or collaborate individually. The building also includes a cafe and several study areas.
The building is located on the University of Michigan’s main campus in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It is 312,000 square feet and houses various departments and research centers. It also includes the university’s museums and teaching collections for paleontology and zoology. Its design breaks from the traditional academic research environment, and encourages collaboration and new ways to display science. It was also designed to create an immersive environment, allowing visitors to interact with researchers.
The building’s new space is also the site of several major initiatives and transformations. A large portion of clinical pathology operations will move to the new North Campus Research Complex, freeing up space in University Hospital. Another new clinical building, the Rachel Upjohn Building, includes the U-M Depression Center. The new building will greatly increase the medical school’s research capacity. The new building features flexible laboratory space and research themes. In addition to this, a new women’s hospital is being built on campus.
Northwestern University’s Robert H. Lurie Biomedical Research Center
The new research building is a key part of Northwestern University’s Chicago academic medical campus. It includes three major research centers and six floors of space. The design of the building reflects the urban character of its surroundings while providing a forward-looking statement about the future of Northwestern medicine.
The new building employs environmentally friendly practices and incorporates sustainable design elements such as 20% recycled construction materials. In addition, it has a blue and green roof that helps with heat management and storm protection. The building’s innovative design also minimizes the footprint and provides for safe movement of sensitive research equipment.
The new building is expected to open in six years and is designed by Perkins+Will. It will house several research labs, vivariums, and meeting and event space. The center’s environmentally friendly design has earned it high praise.
University of Michigan’s Simpson Querrey Biomedical Research Center
The Simpson Querrey Biomedical Research Centre is an important research and collaboration center. Its 12 floors are dedicated to research and study of disease. Designed to maximize scientific interaction, the building will eventually include 16 additional floors of laboratories. The center will also provide new public spaces, such as Kabiller Student Lounge.
The Simpson Querrey Biomedical Research Centre has had many milestones since it was first built. It has been a collaborative effort of many individuals and teams. The research facility was designed to fit into the existing research campus. It is one of the tallest lab buildings in the world.
