Travel Operating Room Nurse Jobs

Are you seeking an opportunity to travel the world’s most breathtaking places and provide excellent care to patients? A career as a travel operating room nurse could be just what you’re searching for! Not only does this profession pay well, it helps develop various skillsets, offers flexible schedules and comes complete with full benefits package.

Nurses in the OR are often the first responders to emergencies, helping stabilize and treat patients in critical states. This role is ideal for nurses who desire to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team in order to enhance patient outcomes.

An operating room nurse’s role involves working closely with the perioperative care team to oversee all aspects of an operation. It’s a demanding role that requires meticulous attention to detail and the capacity for problem-solving quickly. Despite these demands, many OR RNs report enjoying their job and feeling empowered by their responsibility in ensuring each patient has the best experience during surgery.

Popular surgical procedures include c-sections, cesarean sections, breast biopsies, prostatectomies, hysterectomies and tonsillectomy (for a comprehensive list of surgeries visit John Hopkins Medicine). A nurse working as an operating room assistant or circulating nurse typically completes preoperative documentation by identifying patients’ allergies and preexisting conditions; verifying their identity; prepping the operating room; maintaining infection control throughout the duration of the procedure.

Circulating OR RNs serve as the initial point of contact for patients, communicating their progress to surgeons and other healthcare providers during surgery. They also help prepare patients for surgery by providing proper positioning, administering medications if needed, and monitoring their condition throughout the operation.

Other duties of operating room travel nurses include wound care after surgery and coordination of follow-up care with the surgeon, monitoring patient progress and making sure they take their medication as directed. This rewarding role can lead to higher salaries as you gain experience.

Cardiovascular OR RNs earn a lucrative salary as they aid patients recovering from potentially life-threatening procedures. With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing hospitals to cancel or postpone surgeries for many, this nursing specialty has become increasingly important and one that many nurses are choosing to pursue.

A career as a burn or critical care OR RN can be highly rewarding, but it’s essential to recognize these roles are challenging and require extensive training. A bachelor’s degree in nursing is required to qualify for travel burn OR RN positions, and passing the NCLEX-RN licensing exam to gain licensure is mandatory.

A burn RN must be able to offer effective treatments options to burn victims while minimizing the potential complications from their injury. This requires specialized clinical knowledge, an in-depth comprehension of research and treatment techniques, as well as the capacity for making timely decisions. Some burn OR RNs even go on to earn Certified Burn Registered Nurse (CBRN) certification.
