The SJSU Research Foundation

Founded in 2002, the SJSU Research Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that provides administrative and business support to the campus research enterprise. Its purpose is to inspire and support Principal Investigators, who are leaders in their field, and who conduct innovative and progressive engineering research that transforms the world.

Among the many programs and organizations at San Jose State University, the SJSU Research Foundation is one of the most significant. This nonprofit auxiliary organization supports the university’s mission of research and education. The organization is a crucial partner in the campus community, providing an entrepreneurial framework for external engagement.

The SJSU Research Foundation is responsible for providing financial oversight for a variety of non-state funded educational activities. The organization also manages contracts, grants and other self-supporting programs, and provides support to faculty through the proposal writing process.

The Research Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit auxiliary organization that employs more than 1,000 people in its central offices in downtown San Jose. The SJSU Research Foundation is seeking nominations for its Board of Directors for the academic year 2021-22. Candidates must be engaged in research or scholarship, or in a creative activity. The nomination pool will be screened, with final selection made by October 22.

Lobbying activity

Its mission is also to transmit knowledge to its students and expand the base of knowledge through scholarship. As part of its mission, SJSU participates in the local policy making process through engagement with various stakeholders.

SJSU is a member of the California State University (CSU) system, which is comprised of 23 campuses. CSUs participate in public policy through open dialogue and advocacy efforts. The CSU’s Advocacy and State Relations (ASR) team participates in state-wide advocacy on issues such as energy and sustainability. ASR also works with the Governor’s Office Sustainability Task Force.

The SJSU Research Foundation works with faculty members and PIs to support research proposal development and support faculty through the research proposal process. In addition, SJSU Facilities and Sustainability staff work closely with local government officials to ensure local policy is crafted with the university in mind.
