Preston Cancer Research Building

The Preston Cancer Research Building

Located in downtown Nashville, the Preston Cancer Research Building is home to the Vanderbilt University Cancer Center and its affiliated laboratories. As a member of the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, the Preston Building is part of a growing health research center in the Vanderbilt Medical Center. The building serves as the campus’s clinical trials processing core.

Clinical Trials Processing Core

Located in the preston cancer research building, the Clinical Trials Processing Core provides high quality sample management services to the oncology community. This includes a myriad of services including but not limited to sample processing, logistics, financial management, auditing, and data tracking. The Clinical Trials Processing Core is located on the sixth floor of the Preston Research Building. The core’s mission is to enhance the research quality of the campus by providing a centralized resource for high-volume sample processing and logistics.

The Clinical Trials Processing Core also provides a number of services aimed at increasing the speed and efficiency of sample processing. Some of these services include the re-sample process for newly acquired human specimen, ensuring quality control of samples, and managing the storage and delivery of samples. The Clinical Trials Processing Core also specializes in the management of human specimen for pediatric trials. This may require the management of complex correlative samples.

The Clinical Trials Processing Core is not the only sample management program at the helm of a campus that boasts a sizeable number of clinical trials. The Center for Translational Partnerships (CTP) is a partner with KentuckyOne Health in the conduct of clinical trials. The CTP’s mission is to ensure that the treatment of cancer subjects is both compassionate and scientifically sound.

Biostatistics and Epidemiology divisions have moved to the Preston Building

Located in the Preston Building on 300 West Preston Street in Baltimore, Maryland, the Biostatistics and Epidemiology divisions provide a variety of opportunities for students. The departments’ faculty members represent a broad range of interests and expertise, including maternal and child health, alcohol and drug prevention, and environmental exposure assessment.

The Biostatistics Division focuses on the analysis of public health data. They develop statistical methods and novel methodologies to improve health and disease. The Division also manages a large clinical trials program, and is the administrative home of the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology.

The Division’s faculty members are involved in a variety of research projects, from vaccine safety to survival analysis. Some faculty have strong relationships with departments that require biostatistical cores for multicenter studies.

The department is also home to the Genetic Epidemiology program, an internationally recognized center for genetic epidemiology. The Newborn and Childhood Screening Division tests for many hereditary disorders, including sickle cell anemia, galactosemia, fatty oxidation disorders, and congenital adrenal hyperplasia.
