The Plattekill Travel Plaza is an American cultural landmark situated in Wallkill, Orange County and catalogued as Locale; its primary coordinates are 41deg34’34″N 74deg5’7″W. This rest stop on I-87 is known as Plattekill Travel Plaza. In addition, Roy Rogers Market and Brioche Cafe as well as other food vendors and vendors are featured at this 24-hour travel plaza that also has free WiFi connectivity. The Plattekill Travel Plaza is one of 27 food and service areas on New York State Thruway system managed by the Thruway Authority and offering restaurants, public fax machines, gift shops and TasteNY, an exhibition of food made in New York State.
Some locals are taking advantage of an ingenious way to gain entry to the newly opened plattekill travel plaza without ever exiting onto Interstate. All they need to do is follow Heinsaman Lane south and park behind it; some claim it is always locked, yet video footage taken Thursday clearly demonstrates this isn’t the case.
The Plattekill Travel Plaza can be found near Chadwick Lake, Orange Lake and Gardnertown and approximately two miles southwest of Balmville. As there are only limited ATMs nearby it would be wise to obtain some cash before visiting as it can get quite busy on weekends. Also try visiting during weekdays rather than weekends as crowds can quickly gather on weekends!
