Little People Jungle
Little People are a Danish company that produce a plethora of toy-related items, from construction vehicles to robot toys. They were originally manufactured in wood and plastic. The company was acquired by Mattel in the 1990s. In 1999 they celebrated their 40th anniversary. A new line of toys introduced in 2000 included electronic sounds and a few other modern day gimmicks.
One of the better marketed Little People products was the Safety School Bus, which hit the streets in 1959. Its name might be a bit of a mouthful but its features were plenty of fun. Six figures were included, all wrapped in lithographs simulating clothes. Another notable feature was the school bus’s patented re-seatable seat. Despite the fact that the school bus was a little rough around the edges, it was a big hit.
A few years later, the company incorporated a ‘FAMILY ALERT’ safety program, requiring parents to place warning labels on the toys before they could be opened. Toy manufacturers were forced to re-evaluate their toy-making procedures. This was a sensible move, as the company grew rapidly over the next several years.
The Little People also starred in an animated series produced by Cuppa Coffee Studios. There were 138 episodes, including six music videos. These have all been compiled into 30 volumes.
Of course, the little people are not the only ones who are fond of the little ditty. Many of them have become collectors items. However, they do not come cheap. Some of them are worth more than the price of a new car. For example, one of the more coveted sets was released in the late nineties, but it can still be found on eBay.
Other noteworthy examples include the Little People A to Z learning zoo. It’s the perfect gift for your budding explorer. There are over 26 different animal species to choose from. Also included are a funky car, a safari jeep, and a boat. Using the set will get your kiddos to actually see and touch the animals. You can also add to the experience by incorporating the other zoo animals into the mix.
While a lot has been written about the various types of little people, they have also made a few notable appearances in real life. For example, the Little People are featured on the cover of the Sunny Day Real Estate album, as well as in an episode of Robot Chicken. Several other notable characters have also appeared in movies and TV shows. As a result, they are often associated with the “biggest names in toy manufacturing”: Disney, Hasbro, Mattel, Fisher-Price, and others.
The aforementioned is a small sample of the Little People’s impressive line. There are more than 50 sets to choose from. In addition, many of the more recent designs use a slicker design and are made from sturdy, child-friendly materials. Whether you’re looking for a fun new toy or just want to treat yourself to a special treat, you’ll find something suitable at the Little People Museum in Winsted, Wisconsin.
