World of Warcraft Thanes – How to Assist the People of Hjaalmarch
Getting the thane of the town to award you with a housecarl may be the biggest ego boost of your life. However, you will still need to complete several quests to get there. The jarl of Solitude has a surprisingly generous disposition towards thanes, but you’ll need to put in the work to make sure you don’t miss out.
The jarl will be more than willing to hand out the honors, provided you’ve demonstrated that you can manage the requisite number of quests. The main requirement is a good attitude, and a willingness to spend the required gold on the requisite items. Investing 500 gold in a certain store will count toward your Thaneship, though. As part of the deal, you’ll also receive a random enchanted sword. In addition, the Jarl will reward you with a fancy title.
The aforementioned three-part Miscellaneous Quest requires you to do some heavy lifting. The best way to approach this quest is to have a few of your companions help you out. This is especially true if you haven’t completed the Dragon Rising quest yet. It will also be a good idea to get a companion to carry around a small supply of the more important items, such as food and drink. You’ll also need to complete the quest’s main questline, which involves tracking down a rogue elf in the mountains and slaying a swarm of elves. Alternatively, you can take a more direct route and travel north to Whiterun to aid in the siege of Balgruuf.
The best part about this quest is that it isn’t hard to do. You’ll need to travel to a number of towns and villages in the south and west of Stormwind, as well as the mountains and escapse. If you’ve done the Dragon Rising, you’ll be able to help out in a number of ways, ranging from battling a group of monsters to rescuing a captive dragon. You’ll also need to assist with some of the smaller tasks, such as clearing a path to the aforementioned elf and removing a fallen snarling dragon from the sky. The aforementioned elf is also worth a chat, as he has a few helpful tidbits to share.
The main drawback is that you’ll only get one chance at being named the Thane of the town. The best way to win the title is to complete the various related quests that are part of the town’s triennial cycle. You’ll need to do some serious research to determine the best route, though. If you’re lucky, you’ll even get to play a part in the aforementioned elf’s bluffing scheme. Regardless, the rewards are well worth the effort, as you’ll be rewarded with a nice housecarl and a nice title. This isn’t a one-trick pony, however, as the other main questline will have a number of kinks of its own. As with most of the major holds, you’ll need to improve the disposition of at least five people.
