Bloat is a group of these creatures – one male and 10 to 20 females – which gather together to eat. They can weigh up to 8,000 pounds and are large animals. Subcutaneous fat is what makes them so heavy. They can store food for up to three weeks because they only eat grass. A typical bloat would consist of one male hippo and ten to twenty females.
Bloating can be caused by many things. A physical exam will help your doctor determine the exact cause. If the symptoms are mild and go away on their own, they are most likely temporary. A doctor may order imaging tests to examine your abdomen. Bloating that isn’t temporary may mean you should avoid foods and drinks that can cause gas. It can also cause unpleasant abdominal pain and gurgling or rumbling.
